Baidyanath Dham is one of the prominent Hindu pilgrimage spots,
located in Deoghar district of Indian state of Jharkhand. Situated in the Santhal Parganas, the temple complex houses the holy temple of Baba Baidyanath with a Jyotirlingam enshrined within its sanctum and 22 other holy temples. Besides being a popular tourist attraction, the site is a home of Shiva-Baidyanath Temple.
The manuscripts and inscriptions in the temple area reveal the historical significance of various dynasties at this Hindu pilgrimage spot. It is believed that the temple gained its popularity during 8th century when Adityasena Gupta, the last Gupta ruler, ruled this region. Man Singh, a courtier in Akbar's court, excavated a tank at the site of the temple, which is presently known as Mansarovar.
Manuscript preserved in the archives of Maharaja of Gidhaur has 'The Madan Madhavi', an ancient manuscript. This manuscript provides information of this site and its cultural history during Gidhaur Raj.
As stated in the inscription on Baidyanath Temple, it is believed that the temple was built by Puran Mal at the request of the priest Raghunath Ojha. Furthermore, it is also believed that the inscription was forcibly engraved by Puran Mal to mark his ownership of the surrounding area.... Length of visit: 2-3hrs

Trikuta Parvata, collectively known as Trikutachal, is a combination of three main peaks on the hill, which are situated at the height of around 2,470 ft. The site is Located at a distance of around 10 km from Deoghar on the way to Dumka.
The site served as a location for Sage Bam Bam Baba for commencing his penance. It is frequently thronged by travellers and pilgrims during the month of Shravan for collecting wood apple leaves. Also known as Garden of Shiva, the site has trees of wood apples in abundance.
The hill is the origin point of river Mayurakshi and also has a famous Shiva Temple, which is popular with the name of Trikutachal Mahadeva Temple. Apart from this, the site also houses an altar of the goddess of Trishuli and a cottage of sage Dayananda.

Basukinath Temple, another famous pilgrimage spot, is frequently thronged by visitors and devotees throughout the year for its popular Shiva Temple. It is believed that the pilgrimage to Babadham is incomplete without paying homage at Basukinath. The history of this popularly known Shiva Temples is connected with Ghatwals of Nonihat.
The temple is situated near the village of Jarmundi and presents an example of local art. This ancient temple houses many other small temple located in its campus area.
After the death of the Puran Mal, Raghunath Ojha constructed a new porch and set up his own inscription stating that the entire temple was created by him. The holy site is recognised in the Muslim period as well, as the information about the temple is compiled in Khulasati-t-twarikh written between 1695 and 1699. Till the arrival of East India Company, the temple belonged to the Maharaja of Gidhaur, who won this region by defeating the Nababs of Babadham.
The main temple of the site is a Jyotirlingam, which has a structure in stone with a tower 72 ft tall. The temple is dedicated to local deity of the region named as Baidyanath, another name of Lord Shiva.
The temple is popular among devotees for its various architectural styles and beautiful surroundings. The ceilings and walls of the temple are beautifully adorned with a number of bells. Apart from this, the temple also houses a beautiful idol of Nandi, a bull, a vehicle of Lord Shiva.

Nandan Pahar is located at a distance of around 3 kmfrom Baba Baidyanath Dham station. The numerous temples on the hill have beautiful idols of Shiva, Parvati, Ganesh and Kartik. The site also has a water tank, which supplies filtered water to the entire destination. Tourists can also see beautiful views of the district, sunrise and sunset from this site.
As per mythology, once Ravana tried to enter Shivadham forcibly when Nandi was the doorkeeper of Lord Shiva. Nandi stopped him from entering the premises of Lord Shiva. Ravana got furious and threw him down at this site and hence, the hill is known by his name. Apart from housing the temple, the hill also has a famous park named Nandan Hill Entertainment Park.
With the availability of swimming and boating facilities, the park is one of the ideal sites for picnic and play fields.

Shivaganga, earlier known as Varvoghar kund, was founded by Ravana, when he made a blow with his fist on the earth. At that time a huge water stream came out and formed a pond, which is presently known as Shivaganga. It is also believed that at this site Ravana handed over the Shivalingam to Lord Vishnu, who was disguised as a Brahmin.
Located at a distance of 200 m from the Baidyanath Temple, the present shape of the pond was constructed by the Zamindars of Lakshmipur estate. Further, it is also believed that Ashwini Kumaras, renowned as doctors of gods, took bath in this pond and cured themselves from diseases.
Natives of the place state that the pond has never dried up. In addition to this, it is also believed that taking bath in the Shivaganga is similar to taking bath in the holy river Ganges. Tourists and devotees visiting the destination take a dip into the Shivaganga before offering water to the Jyotirlingam. The western side of the pond is adorned with a small Shiva Temple, which was built by Raja Jai Singh.

Tapovan is another holy site located at a distance of around 10 km from Babadham. The site houses a beautiful temple dedicated to Lord Shiva and is popularly known as Taponath Mahadeva. Tourists can witness various caves on this hill, which served as a site for penance of Sri Sri Balananda Brahmachari and Sage Valmiki. One of the prime attractions of the site is the cave, which has a Shivalingam enshrined in it.
Repeating the history, Sri Sri Mohanananda Brahmachari, one of the disciples of Sri Sri Balananda Brahmachari, also came at the site for penance. In the earlier period, the site was also a meditation spot, called Tapobhumi, for the Nagas.
Preserving an inscription of Shri Deo Narayan Pal, the place was a military camp of the Palas during ancient period. Apart from this, a cracked rock at Tapovan is also popular for enshrining a portrait of Lord Hanuman, the monkey god. Tourists can also visit a small cemented Kund, popularly known as Shukta Kund, which is located at the foothills of this site. Further, it is also believed that Goddess Sita used to take bath in the water of this beautiful pond.
